Biography:
Education:
Born in Jalisco, Mexico, Yolanda Sahagun and her family moved to the United States when she was five years old. She grew up in Louise, Texas, where her love of science and medicine blossomed. After graduating High School, Sahagun set her sights on earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Houston Victoria. After being a successful practicing RN for a few years, Sahagun decided to pursue an advanced degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She graduated from Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi in 2016 and began her new career shortly thereafter.
Sahagun’s Professional Career as a Family Nurse Practitioner:
In most instances where a communication barrier proves problematic, a provider would need to call an interpreter. However, as a bilingual health care provider, Sahagun easily removes language barriers to care for specific patient groups. Sahagun’s Spanish-speaking patients do not have to tell an interpreter who is a total stranger about potentially sensitive personal information and she can communicate with them in the language they are most comfortable speaking.
“Practicing in Bryan/College Station is incredibly rewarding. I enjoy educating our patient population about wellness, chronic disease prevention, and about how they can live a healthier life,” Sahagun said.
Why I chose HealthPoint:
